ArtWorks Cape Ann
Our Mission
Building art appreciation and creative expression through a variety of mediums. ArtWorks provides family members and other caring adults with a catalyst for freedom of expression, self-reflection and community building in a safe, non-clinical, peer-guided environment.
Our Vision
At ArtWorks, we strive to create a safe space for enjoyment and support through a common bond of understanding. Our participants are in the company of others who share similar situations and challenges. We look to provide an opportunity for relief through immersion in the creative arts.
ArtWorks participants gather each month in a local museum guided by a different theme intended to build self-care, personal wellness, a sense of community, and the value of creativity as an outlet for managing challenges. Participants take part in guided conversation, view and discuss art with a guest artist, and create their own works.
Our Program
Designed to provide an outlet of connection and mindful support for individuals directly impacted by the substance misuse of others, ArtWorks introduces a variety of opportunities to explore personal challenges through creative expression.
How It All Started
Artworks is NOT art therapy.
Serving individuals in a non-clinical environment and teaming with local artists/organizations, ArtWorks provides inspiration, materials, subject matter expertise, and peer insight during each monthly session.
ArtWorks inspires hope for the future by providing a sense of community and place for individuals who have a loved one struggling with substance misuse.
Melding the expansive art expertise of our community with the need for addressing those silently impacted by addiction, ArtWorks helps to create a bridge between art and the broader challenges of caregiving.
ArtWorks is filling a void in the care cycle that is unlike anything offered on Cape Ann.
How Can I Participate?
-
During each event, participants share a light meal and conversation, observe and discuss works of art that fit the evening’s theme, listen to and participate in a peer-led discussion, and, lastly, create meaningful art.
-
Yes. We welcome anyone who is challenged by a family member struggling with substance misuse.
-
No! The art projects we create are meant as outlets for personal expression and relief. We believe that everyone is an artist in their own right!
-
Thanks to grants and wonderful supporters, there is no cost for participation in ArtWorks sessions.
-
Most of the time, yes.
Most art projects are individual works of creativity, and you are welcome to keep these pieces. We have a few collaborative projects throughout the year, during which ArtWorks holds the finished piece for communal display at special events.
-
Not to worry! While we take photos of the art during the events, and sometimes display our collaboration pieces publicly, names and images of participants are not be visible in any public display materials.
-
At this time ArtWorks is only for adult participants 18 and over.
